Friday Freewrite #7 – “The spaces between…”

Friday-FreewriteWelcome back to the Friday Freewrite!

Here’s how it works:

  • I post a “JUMP LINE,” a short phrase that will serve as a writing prompt, each Friday.
  • YOU put pen to paper and write for 90 seconds. (I’ll do it, too, of course.)  Don’t think.  Don’t cross out.  (That is wise advise borrowed from Natalie Goldberg in Wild Mind.)  Just start with the prompt and see where it takes you.
  • Then POST YOUR RESPONSE as a comment.

Are you ready? Let’s begin!

Today’s jump line:  The spaces between

See the comments below the post for responses.

Note to Writers Forum members in good standing: The newsletter editor will be perusing Friday Freewrite responses to publish in the newsletter.  If you DO NOT want your response printed, kindly indicate this in the comments.  We are happy to respect your wishes.  Happy writing!

  1. …are where everything interesting happens. We grow up thinking life is about big events: marriage, births, epic vacations. These things are milestones, but it is in the quiet moments – the spaces between – where we do our most important inner work. Our life’s work.

  2. Friday Freewrite #7 – “The spaces between…” …the characters in my life, like the kerning of a font, are too close. When they override each other, confusion reigns.

  3. Spaces between people is where the love songs are written and the tears are shed. But that is not where these spaces begin. They begin as little treasures of separation–little pawns that we strategize around ourselves to repel all those human nuisances who would distract us from our magical love affair with mirrors.

  4. The spaces between is really overrated. You bring up columns and I bring up wall. I prefer to be close to people, to projects, to pain, to love, to joy, disappointment, any thing that makes life real. Yeah, I get freedom and indiviedualism, but I thrive on contact, mental, spiritual and physical. I like to get mud on my hands. ….???
