Friday Freewrite #3 – “What I miss the most…”

Friday-Freewrite

Welcome back to the Friday Freewrite!

Here’s how it works:

  • I post a “JUMP LINE,” a short phrase that will serve as a writing prompt, each Friday.
  • YOU put pen to paper and write for 90 seconds. (I’ll do it, too, of course.)  Don’t think.  Don’t cross out.  (That is wise advise borrowed from Natalie Goldberg in Wild Mind.)  Just start with the prompt and see where it takes you.
  • Then POST YOUR RESPONSE as a comment.

Are you ready? Let’s begin!

Today’s jump line:  What I miss the most

See the comments for my response.

Note to Writers Forum members in good standing: The newsletter editor will be perusing Friday Freewrite responses to publish in the newsletter.  If you DO NOT want your response printed, kindly indicate this in the comments.  We are happy to respect your wishes.  Happy writing!

  1. … is the freedom to run around naked. Not the naked part, but the running part. Well, actually the naked part also, since I don’t want to scare the neighbors.

  2. …is her fur, warm to the touch of my fingers. An animal is such a tactile thing. We love their bodies, and we love more than their bodies. But without words (of which they have none and we have perhaps too many), the physical is a big part. So, yes, it is her fur that I miss the most.

  3. is the ability to walk unaided into the bathroom and step over the shower threshold to stand under the hot water and let it stream down my body and rivulet through my hair. This one-legged existence will be over in another six or so weeks, mostly, and I will be ready.

  4. is the freedoms of yesterday. The simpleness of the eras of he past. Hard work that was gratifying and felt good. Being swept away with the chores outside where you could reflect in your surroundings versus getting caught up in the day to day stresses of today and being drained of life by today’s technology.

  5. What I miss the most is unknown to me. I miss being young, with an energetic body. I miss watching television with my parents. But what I miss the most is the freedom that comes with ignorance of the human condition. Does this make any sense? I doubt it.
